Peter Capaldi’s take on Doctor Who has been a departure from the goofy portrayal by Matt Smith.

Scottish actor Peter Capaldi (The Thick of It) is the new Doctor and it has been refreshing to see a more sinister portrayal of the titular Doctor Who role. Capaldi’s take on the iconic character is  a change from Matt Smith’s goofy doctor who found bow ties and fez cool or used terms such as “timey wimey” to described complex time travel issues.

Capaldi’s Doctor has been described as a cold character who challenges his companion, Clara, and antagonistic toward her boyfriend, Mr. Pink. However, it can be argued that previous doctors (Christopher Eccleston) was the same to Rose’s boyfriend.

This doctor is a definite Jungian shadow to the previous incarnations and is more in line with David Tennant’s portrayal who can go from the comedic doctor to the dark, vindictive Time Lord.
